Dr. Jan Turner Heinz succumbed to cancer after a long battle on May 15, 2017. After graduating from Gateway in 1971, she earned her BS in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology from IUP in 1975. She went on to earn her master's degree from Syracuse University and in 1987 received a doctorate in speech communication from Penn State University. At the time of her death, Jannie had been director of Speech-Language Pathology and Assistive Technology Department of Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD for 25 years as well as assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University in Bethesda, MD. She was nationally known as a speech clinician in pediatric speech and language disorders, and she worked closely with her husband of 23 years, Dr. John Heinz who is a semiretired Kennedy Krieger research scientist. She will be missed by all her friends and her sister Carolyn Turner Getsie (class of 1969) for her loving ways, gentleness and sense of humor. We miss you Jannie.
