Joseph Edward Figulski, a former first administrative assistant to the deputy prothonotary of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, died Tuesday of liver and kidney failure. He was 50.
Mr. Figulksi's brother, Thomas, of the Strip District, said his brother had been ill for the past five years.
Mr. Figulski of Turtle Creek, attended Gateway High School, where he graduated in 1975.
After spending two years at Penn State University in Uniontown, Mr. Figulski went to work in the Uniontown courthouse as a tipstaff. He also worked for the American Heart Association.
From 1985 to 1991, he was chief deputy prothonotary in Uniontown.
In 1991, Mr. Figulski moved back to Pittsburgh and went to work for the Superior Court of Pennsylvania as the assistant deputy prothonotary, a position he held until 2003.
During this time, Mr. Figulski also worked at the Frick Art and Historical Center, where he was responsible for conducting tours and helping to organize special events.
Mr. Figulski served on the executive board of Pennsylvania Association of Prothonotaries and Clerks of Court.
In addition to his brother, Mr. Figulski is survived by another brother, Warren of Boardman, Ohio; a sister, Judith Anker of Farmington; and his mother, Mildred Figulski of Turtle Creek.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today in Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home, Turtle Creek/Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek.
